Louth bowls: Over 60s seal title double for club

The title was secured with a whitewash win over a visiting Skegness B team and came hot on the heels of the men’s A team finishing top of their section.

They beat Skegness on all five rinks in a 143-64 aggregate shots victory to take maximum points. Top rink for Louth was George Willoughby, Derek Woodforth, Bob Ledgerwood and Peter Hill who won 36-12.

The other winning skips were Keith Kelly (35-15), John Welsh (23-10), Colin Smith (24-12) and Horace Cope (25-15).

Louth have completed their fixtures with an unassailable lead. Rivals Sleaford needed maximum points at Dunholme combined with a defeat for Louth on at least two rinks, but Dunholme won on three rinks and edged the aggregate by three shots.

* At club league level, Fast Shippers became champions of the Monday Evening Two-bowl Triples League.

They cruised past Strollers by 30 shots to 4 to secure top spot on shots difference from Humberstone who did all they could in beating Jackos 28-11.

* Sleepwalkers won the Wednesday/Thursday Morning Triples Division Two title thanks to a 16-8 win over Wise Guys, while rivals Backwoodsmen went down 15-11 against Doves.

Fledglings and Backwoodsmen are level on points with two games left and will contest the runners-up spot.

* It’s all to play for in Division Two of the Tuesday Mixed Pairs where any of the top four could win it.

John Williams and Bernice Culham are in pole position after beating J and M Robinson 28-4 to hold a two-point lead and a far superior shots difference.

Despite not playing Derek and Sylvia Woodforth stayed in second, two points ahead of Graham Wood and Eileen Rayner who beat G. Skill and stand-in partner Chris Hagan 21-7.

They pinched third spot on shots difference from Terry and Jenny Cornwall who lost 18-16 to Robin Barrow and Sue Gurbutt.
