Louth Indoor Bowls Club see off Doncaster in national Denny Cup

Louth Indoor Bowls Club's men's team made it through to the next round of the Denny Cup courtesy of a 74-60 aggregate shots win over Doncaster.

Each club won their two home rinks, but Louth enjoyed better winning margins.

The rink of Allan Dent (Senior), Alan Watson, Mally Hewson and Mark Freemantle won 24-13, while Alan Dent (Junior), Horace Cope, Paul Dent and Keith Kelly won 20-9.

At Doncaster, the Louth four of Simon Reeson, Russ Dent, Simon Dent and Ian Betram almost pulled off another win, but slipped up on the final end and lost by a shot.

The next round is scheduled for Saturday, November 19 where Louth will meet the winners of the Lincoln versus Selby tie.

* It was not so good news for Louth’s mixed team in the Egham Trophy as they went out of the competition, losing 88-69 on aggregate shots against Boston.

Their only success came from the rink of Allan Dent, Val Sherry, Irene Bailey and Mark Freemantle which won 21-15.

There was a close contest on Simon Reeson’s rink which eventually lost 21-19, and Andy Leggett’s rink were only three shots behind going into the last end, but dropped a four to lose 19-12.

But the main damage was done on the other rink where Boston raced into a 17-0 lead. The Louth four won the next seven ends to narrow the gap to seven shots before Boson eased away again to win 33-17.

* The club’s Roving Jack singles competition was won by Allan Dent who defeated Robin Barrow 9-1 in the final.

Both players had won all four of their respective group games to reach the quarter-final stage where Dent then beat Brian Smith 10-3 and Barrow beat Chuck Rose 7-4.

In the semi-finals, Dent eased past Mike Lee 8-3, while Barrow reached the final with a 7-2 win against Ken Hasnip.
