Louth Indoor Bowls: Flyers hold on to lead in tight title battle

Leaders Flyers had an important 18-11 win against Anglers who dropped to fourth place, while second-placed Follies stayed two points off the top after a 22-9 win over Jayees who have fallen out of contention.

Canaries hopped up a place into third on shots difference after their 16-12 win against Woodentops, while Tyros are still in the hunt after a 24-8 win over bottom team Bunnies.

* There is an equally close battle in Division Two of the Friday Mixed Pairs where Roy Tear and Sylvia Stainton stayed two points clear at the top with an 18-8 win over Geoff Tyler and Pauline Thornton.

Keith and Carol Kelly are second on shots difference after their 33-8 trouncing of bottom pair Len and Audrey Skeath.

George Foster and Renee Kearney are third after stand-in Derek Stocks secured the duo’s 14-4 win over Andrew McMaster and Mary Barker.

* JCB maintained their three-point lead in the Wednesday/Thursday Morning League with a 14-10 win against Crackerbarrels, while second-placed Waltham opened up a three-point gap over Kingfishers who they beat 13-10.

Bottom team Webbos grabbed a rare victory, 13-9, against Castaways, but are still four points adrift of Pips who beat Square Pegs 16-9.

In Division Two, the top two both lost, leaving leaders Sleepwalkers with a three-point advantage despite crashing 22-5 against Louth, while second-placed Saints were stung 16-11 by bottom team Scorpions.

This allowed Backwoodsmen to close the gap on Saints to two points with two games in hand after a 17-11 win against Wise Guys. Fledglings are joint third after their 13-9 win over Doves.

* On Saturday the club are holding a Frog Racing evening. First race at 7pm.
