Louth Indoor Bowls: Shippers' title hopes run aground

In the Evening Fours, second-placed Fast Shippers ran aground when routed 17-2 by Roundheads to sink six points behind leaders Rockset who wiped out Chalkers 24-8.

APS moved level on points with Fast Shippers after beating Questors 25-9. The battle of the bottom two left Wayouts still seeking their first win after losing 18-16 to Legends who they now trail by seven points.

* Avengers notched up their first points in the Newcomers league after scraping a 9-7 win over Mackies, but they remain six points adrift at the bottom.

At the other end of the table, leaders Cheekies were beaten 13-8 by Merrymen but still hold a four-point lead over Pure Silk who were not at their smoothest when held to a 13-13 draw by Ditchers.

* In the Friday Mixed Pairs Division Two, bottom pair Len and Audrey Skeath led table-toppers Roy Tear and Sylvia Stainton 19-17, but Roy and Sylvia scored six shots on the penultimate end to eventually win 23-21.

It was a similar story in a mid-table battle where Mal Hewson and Janet Norman led 13-6 against Andrew McMaster and Mary Barker before the latter pair scored five and then four over the next two ends to raced away to a 21-13 victory.

Division Three is proving an excellent contest with just one point separating the top four.

Leaders Steve Moore and Pam Cowling were held to a 13-13 draw by third-placed Ray and Sue Green, allowing Peter and Joan Hill to go level on points at the top with a 12-7 victory over Sue Gurbutt and new partner Martin Green.

Fourth-placed Gordon and Brenda Clark will go top if they win their game in hand.

* In the Australian Pairs, Jeff and Joan Baker notched up their first win with an excellent 11-10 victory against third-placed duo Simon Reeson and Liz Draper. Horace Cope and Brenda True are well clear at the top after beating Wise and McMaster 29-6.

* For a second successive game, Dodgers lived up to their name by avoiding defeat on the final end.

Skip Neil Castle turned a two-shot deficit into four shots for his team and secured a 13-11 victory to maintain their comfortable lead at the top of Division Two of the Afternoon Triples.
