Yorkies had just the one game, but their trio of Paul Hayman, Ian Bertram and Geoff Tyler comfortably saw off Dreamers 21-5 to cling on to top spot with a vastly superior shots difference.

Highgate Wanderers had two games against bottom team Lightning, and not surprisingly strolled to victory in each game, winning 22-5 and 22-10 to move into second with a game in hand on the leaders.

Magpies slipped to third after their two games against The Jays brought contrasting results.

They were outplayed by John Williams with John and Heather Masters in the first game, going down 13-6, but were on much better form in the second outing as a changed team of Martin and Linda Oldfield with Deb Castle got a vital 16-7 win to open a three-point gap to their fourth-placed opponents.

Mudlarks consolidated fifth place with two wins over Busy Bs, by 20-11 and 16-9.

* Due to holidays and health issues there was little action in the Australian Pairs, but Paul Hayman and Ian Bertram opened a two-point lead at the top of Group B with a simple 20-8 win over third-placed John Readman and George Chesman.

Rivals John Williams and Joan Foster didn’t play and have a game in hand, while Chuck Rose and Martin Oldfield mounted a challenge for third spot as they hung on for a 14-12 win over Barry Jordan and Pat Morley.

* The club are to hold four successive open weekend sessions, starting on Saturday, September 3 to attract new members of all ages to this game of skill.
