Louth swimmers compete on national stage

FOUR members of the Louth Dolphins Swimming Club have represented their school in a national event in Sheffield.

The annual English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) 2011 Primary Schools Championship took place at Ponds Forge in the steel city on Saturday, June 18.

Emma Maw, Luke Freeman, Max Taylor and Nina Bojen qualified for the championships in May at Grantham, where they competed against nine other teams in the Division Four Midland Schools’ round, winning the 4x25M mixed stroke race & coming second in the 4x25M freestyle.

The National competition is made up from the top two teams from 12 divisions all around the country.

In the 4x25M Freestyle Emma, Luke, Max & Nina finished 14th in the heats with a time of 1.06.23. This put them through to the B final, which they swam in 1.06.08, giving them 10th place overall.

Then in the 4x25M Mixed Stroke Luke (backstroke), Emma (breaststroke), Max (freestyle) and Nina (freestyle) swam their heat in a time of 1.17.86 finishing 20th and narrowly missing out on the finals.
