Lowly Cobras give runaway leaders a scare

Thanks to Ian Chamberlain, with an 18 dart leg, and Darrell Webb (120, 120, 140) the Cobras managed to share the singles.

Martin Bell (125, 137, 137) and Colin Lees (134, 140) took the first pairs for the Monkeys, only for the Cobras to take the next one to leave it all square at 5-5 and set up an all-or-nothing last pair shootout.

This was won by the Monkeys’ pair of Rick Garner and Lee Yates to give the champions elect the narrowest of 7-5 wins.

A fantastic game took place at Red Lion Burgh as they took on Liberal Lads.

The singles were shared at 3-3, with Chris Simpson (120, 123 2x140, 180 and a 12 darter including a bounceout) and Mark Green (121, 4x140, 180) doing well for the Lion.

Liberal then won the first two pairs with Julian Smith and Chris Fisher getting the all-important second pair for victory.

Mark Carter hit 122, 3x140 and even though Eric Hammond and partner Terry Cox lost their only game this season, it was the away team that took the spoils 7-5 to maintain runners-up spot.

Welcome Anchors and Ex Service Sports met and the Sports looked to be heading for a huge victory as they romped into a 5-1 singles lead, Lee Dore snr (3x140 and 17 and 19 dart legs) throwing well for the Anchors.

Despite the anchors winning two of the three doubles, it was Brad Martin (120, 131, 135, 137) and partner Pete Evans who got the matchwinning pairs for the Sports as they won 7-5.

The final game in this division was also a 7-5 scoreline, Seaview Oak beating the Ex Service 501s.

For 501s, Gary Garton (125, 134, 19 darter), Carl Parnham (17 darts) and Lee Woods (121, 2x135) did well.

The Oak had Kristian Thein (125, 140, 180 and a 17 dart leg), Tony Parkin (140, 180), Kev Barker (135, 180) and Lee Godrich (125, 135, 180 and a cracking 13 dart leg) in top form.

In the Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division Two, the division’s tabletoppers Finnegans were home to Vine and were 4-2 up after the singles with Scott Millar (2x121, 140), Bob Millar (171) and P. Smith (121, 133) throwing well.

Finnegans took all the doubles to end up convincing 10-2 winners despite H. Bekes’ 109 finish, M. Spence’s 108 finish and A. Hopkins’ 140 and a
 fantastic 158 finish for the Vine.

An upset was on the cards at Liberal, as Liberal Us played host to highflying Ex Service C and took a 4-2 singles lead.

The Ex Service then took the first two doubles to take a 6-4 lead going into the last pairs of the contest.

M. Mitchel and Roy Langworth won the last pairs for the home side and force a 6-6 draw.

Welcome Hillbillies were away at Chatsworth Hotel, and looked good for their first win as they led 4-2 after the singles and won the first pairs.

The home side then kicked in and won the last two doubles with M. Foreman and M. Tipper getting the all-important last pairs to force a 6-6 draw.

Seaview Oak and WMC Aces met at Seaview and the away side soon found themselves 4-2 up after the singles, and won two of the three pairs to run out 8-4 winners, with Gareth Jowett (121, 3x140) the pick of the Aces.
