Lyric packed for fight night

DUTCH kickboxing legend Ernesto Hoost was among a sold out crowd at the Lyric Theatre last Saturday, to see an action packed night of kickboxing and mixed martial arts.

Dinnington Falcon Fight Academy supremo Cris Janson Piers promoted and ran the event, which featured some of his own fighters, including Kerry Louise Norbury and Jordan Waring.

Norbury took on Holland’s Marlene Okx in a demo bout, while Anston teen Waring knocked out his opponent James De Vries with a spinning back fist.

Another Falcon fighter Chris Starks was victorious in his MMA bout by way of a submission from a choke, beating Sam Rice from Saffron Walden.

Tim Niblett faced a much taller opponent in Koen Kramer from Holland in a K1 fight and although he started well, the Dutchman took over in the third round to seal victory.

Ireland’s Barbara Delaney took a unanimous points decision over French fighter Melanie Bony in a WFKKO Full Contact World title bout.

The evening’s final fight was a fantastic close battle between Robin Vriend and England’s James Russell, who took a split decision.

Four-time world champion Hoost was delighted with the skill shown by fighters at the Lyric.

He said: “I saw some great fights today with plenty of potential on display.”

Promoter Janson Piers added: “This has been one of the best shows in the country this year, I am very proud of everyone who has competed, they fought their hearts out.”
