Mablethorpe marvel Rob shatters mile PB in London

Members of Mablethorpe Running Club have been shining at meets across the country.

Rob Hawse shattered his one mile PB by a whopping seven seconds at the Amba Hotels City of London Mile.

In front of a crowd of 2,821 on the start line, Rob finished among the elite runners in the 3,000-strong field.

He was 34th in 4min 45secs, on a route, which included part of the 2012 London Olympic Marathon course, and which started from St Paul’s Cathedral and took in some of the capital’s iconic landmarks.

The winner was Luke Matthews in 4m 03s.

The first female was Julia Cooke in 4m 39s. (28th overall).

l Guy Willey and Selina Elson represented Mablethorpe RC in the Woodhall Spa Sprint Triathlon.

There were 682 competitors who finished the course, which involved a 400m pool swim, followed by 24km on the bike and finishing with a 5km run.

Guy was 471st in 1h 36m 14s (Swim 13m 14s/Bike 52m 28s/Run 26m 48s) while Selina was 535th in 1h 40m 03s (S.10m 48s/B.55m 45s/R.31m 14s).

The race was won by Simon George (Lincoln Tri), who clocked an incredible 57m 45s (5m 10s/34m 42s/16m 51s, respectively).

l Around 20 junior and senior members of Mablethorpe RC took part in the Cancer Research UK Louth Run For Life.

This was the 11th anniversary of the event which sees combined walkers, runners & supporters in excess of 2,000 lining the streets of Louth.

Many thousands of pounds are raised each year for the charity.

l A quartet of Mablethorpe members were in action in the Bolingbroke Breaker 10km, hosted by Skegness & District Running Club.

This is a tough eight-mile route which includes three challenging hills but 72 runners from 10 different clubs were undeterred.

Mablethorpe results: 22 Nigel Cross 62m 28s; 49 Sharon Wheatley Margarson 72m 46s; 53 Guy Willey 74m 44s; 58 Elaine Wilson - 77m 23s.

The winner was Tristan Learoyd, from New Marske Harriers, in just 45m 10s, a new course record by more than three minute.

First female to finish was Claire Cooney (unaffiliated) in an excellent time of 62m 56s. (23rd overall).

The final race of the Breaker series is a 10k on August 24.

l Husband and wife Rob and Shez Hawse were in the field of 175 in the popular Cleethorpes Parkrun, a free 5km. Rob won the race in 17m 32s while Shez was 15th in 21m 53s, the second lady home in what was her first race back from injury.
