Mablethorpe Running Club: Duathlon is a family affair

A quartet from Mablethorpe Running Club made the shirt trip to Skegness to compete in a Go Tri duathlon.

The event, hosted by Skegness Triathlon Club, returned after last year’s debut and consisted of a 1.2-mile run and five miles on the bike followed by another 1.2-mile run.

Keeping it in the family were husband and wife Carl and Lisa Musson, as well as father and daughter Guy and Phoebe Willey.

Carl improved on last year’s time and position by finishing fourth in 32min 52secs, while Guy finished 10th in 35.38 on his Go-Tri debut.

Fourteen-year-old Phoebe did particularly well on her debut to cross the line 14th in 38.09, but Lisa twisted her ankle on the run and was unable to finish.

The event was won by Michael Irving (Skegness Tri Club) in 29.46.

* Cleethorpes Athletic Club hosted the annual Colin Moody Memorial five-mile road race which attracted 64 runners, varying in age from 15 years to 72.

The field included Mablethorpe runners Elaine Wilson, Sharon Wheatley-Margarson, Janine Stones and Malcolm Brine.

Lead coach Malcolm was first back, finishing 17th in 33min 16secs, followed soon after by Janine who was second lady and 20th overall in 33.42.

Sharon and Elaine were competing just three days after completing the Greater Manchester Marathon, finishing 48th and 52nd in 42.25 and 43.33 respectively.

Nick Martin (Caistor RC) won the event for the second year running in 28.34.

* Mablethorpe RC are offering a gentle and free introduction to running with a couch to 5k programme.

The club offers support from UK Athletics/England Athletics approved coaches as well as fellow runners of all abilities.

Couch to 5k is open to all over the age of 12, but under 12s are welcome in the club’s separate juniors group.

The programme sets off from the clubhouse in Sherwood Fields at 6.30pm on Mondays.
