Mablethorpe Running Club: Kev and Debbie land veterans prizes

Mablethorpe Running Club were out in force as a seven-strong group joined the inaugural Great Grimsby 10k.

The sell-out event produced 1,265 finishers with Mablethorpe led home by Kev Harrison who ran a sterling race to finish as second vet 60 runner and 135th overall in 41min 59secs.

Debbie Jinks crossed the line 437th in 49.29, ahead of Carl Musson (614th in 53.59) and Andrea Mettam (632nd in 54.37).

Clubmates Sharon Wheatley-Margarson and Elaine Wilson crossed the line together 675th and 676th in 55.20, and Lisa Musson came in just three minutes over the hour mark, 983rd in 1hr 03min 06secs.

* For the fifth year in a row Sharon Wheatley-Margarson and Elaine Wilson returned to the Scunthorpe 10k for the fifth successive year.

Among the 335 finishers, Sharon was 168th in 55min 55secs, and Elaine crossed the line 182nd in 57.43.

* Mablethorpe Running Club’s eighth East Coast Classic 10k race has sold out, more than a month ahead of race day.

It will take place on Sunday, September 11 at 10.30am and be preceded by a 3m fun run from 9.30am.

The 10k starts outside the lifeboat station on Mablethorpe’s prom and follows the seafront past Sutton-On-Sea and Sandilands before turning back again to finish at the lifeboat station.

All support welcome.

* Husband and wife Rob and Shez Hawse and their daughter Ella returned to the Harvey Hadden Stadium to race at a Notts Athletic Club meet.

There were seven track events with 89 athletes from all over the UK taking part.

Rob ran the Richard Belton 5k and finished in 17min 05.0secs, while Shez and Ella took part in the Tim Wealthall Mile.

They both ran a very tough race, not only against their competitors but one another as Ella pipped her mum to the post by 11 seconds, finishing in 6min 08.5secs.

* A quartet of Mablethorpe runners took part in the six-mile road race at the Spilsby Show.

Despite the sapping heat, Debbie Jinks won the first vet 50 prize, finishing 47th overall in 50min 27secs.

Guy Willey was next back for Mablethorpe, 61st overall in 53.40, followed by Andrea Mettam (78th – 57.44) and Diane Holmes (106th – 1hr 10min 09secs).

The women’s winner, in 42 minutes flat, was Guy’s sister Ginny Mills (North Dorset Tri) who was visiting the area.
