Major success for Dolphins in Mansfield

SWIMMERS from Worksop Dolphins attended the Major Oak Swimming Club meet at Water Meadows in Mansfield and tasted success against clubs from Notts and the surrounding counties.

Swimmers aged 10 to 15 competed for Worksop in all four disciplines – freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke, with distances ranging from 50m sprints to 400m distance races in freestyle.

Many of the swimmers achieved personal best times and gained qualifying times for the Notts County Championship 2011/12 season.

The Worksop competitors included Abbie Conroy, Katy Rixham, Hannah Taylor, Emma Blackburn, India Foulds, Joanne North, Ellie Archer-Long, Lucy Rixham, Kimberley North, Grace Elcock, Lorna Milligan, Josh Thrower, Charlie Humphries, Tom Renshaw and Kristian Duke.

Duke took first places int he boys 13 years group in 50m, 100m and 200m breaskstroke, and the 200m individual medley races.

Elcock won the girls 13 years age group 50m and 100m backstroke races, while Milligan won the girls 13 years age group 200m backstroke competition.

Qualifying times for next year’s midland region swimming competition were gained by Duke and Milligan, the former also winning the final of the boys medley skins knockout competition.

Dolphins train every Monday, Wednesday and Sunday and are based at Worksop Leisure Centre on Valley Road.

New members are welcome, trials are held on the first Wednesday of every month.
