Maltbees celebrate first win

THE Maltbees were celebrating their first ever victory after a win in a friendly over Braithwell Ladies.

A 14-12 scoreline, thanks to goals from Louise Dowell, Joanne Moore and Jo Charles gave the Maltby netball team their first win, after six defeats in six league outings this season.

Leah Carratt told the Guardian it was a much needed shot in the arm for the side.

“Team morale was very high after the win, it gave everyone a confidence boost,” she said.

“We played them a few months back in another friendly and they thrashed us, so we were very pleased.”

“They are a well established team and have played together for many years so we were all really proud.”

“We’re thankful to them for being kind enough to offer the friendly games to help us improve.”

Carratt herself is currently out of action after fracturing her foot in the first league game of the season.

She explained: “I just landed funny. The ball was crossed into the shooting circle and I jumped up for it and just landed on the side of my foot.”

“I had only been on court for about seven minutes and fractured the fifth metatarsal and snapped two ligaments.”

“I am desperate to get back into playing.”
