The gym, run by instructor Paul Timmins, played host to 24 bouts, nine of which featured Maltby fighters.

One of the locals in action, taking part in her first fight, was 32-year-old Louise Hickling.

She took on the very tough Kelsey Walker from the host gym.

Both ladies put in a spirited performance, throwing some excellent kicks and knees, scoring evenly against each other throughout.

Hickling’s performance on the day earned a special award from instructor Glover at the next club session.

He said: “It was well deserved by Louise, as she always gives it 100 per cent in the club and all her hard work paid off on the day.”

“Louise is a shining example for any ladies wanting to train in this tough sport.”

The Maltby team are now getting ready for their next gym show in Leeds on 11th August, and then in September 11-year-old Josh Swift is hoping to challenge for the British Thai Boxing title.

Having had almost 40 bouts the youngster has become one of the club’s most experienced juniors.

Glover added: “Muay Thai is fast becoming popular around the world because of its devastating kicks, knees, elbows and western boxing techniques.”

“Not only is it a great self defence system it is very good for fitness working every muscle in the body.”
