MANAGER PENS NEW BLUES DEAL

GAINSBOROUGH Trinity manager Steve Charles has this week put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him remain in The Blues hot-seat next season.

Charles has been at the helm since the departure of Paul Mitchell, and has guided Trinity towards a play off place this season.

Speaking to the Standard, Charles was looking to a successful future.

"We are looking to build the club up, both on the field and off it."

"This is a very competitive division, but while it is unrealistic this season, we will give it our best shot and also look towards next season."

Charles has also revealed that he is not looking to make any changes to his backroom staff.

"I have a good working relationship with everyone at the club, and I'm happy with the set up we have put in place."

"That runs right through from John Glover, the kit man, all the way to Peter Swann, the chairman."

While Trinity have continued to add to the squad, there has been little movement through the Northolme exit.

Simon Bird has extended his loan spell at North Ferriby for another month, but others within the Trinity squad have been reluctant to look elsewhere for games.

"We've had enquiries about one or two of the lads," said Charles. "But they don't want to go."

"A couple of the lads have been disappointing this season, but we have good competition for places now."

Trinity's interest in Harrogate's Nathan Peat appears to of been cooled.

Harrogate had accepted Trinity's offer, but have yet to hear from the experienced defender.

Trinity face Workington on Saturday, and will be looking for revenge after suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat in Cumbria.

The game was more memorable for the exploits of the Trinity fans known as the 'Dumfries 15,' who travelled down from Scotland in beachwear to see The Blues suffer their biggest defeat of the season.

Lewis McMahon is still a doubt, rating himself as 50-50, but the England man is keen to get back involved. He said: "I'm not a good watcher, I just want to be out there helping the lads."

The Blues are also in action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Fleetwood Town, after the January fixture was called off in farcical circumstances.

The team and many fans had arrived in the Lancashire coastal resort, only for the game to be called of at 2pm.
