The former De Aston School student rides for top Yorkshire trainer Tim Easterby at Malton, and all of Fentiman’s winners have been trained in the Easterby yard.

Poppies Joy, an outside fancy at 30/1, won by one-and-a-half lengths in a seven-furlong sprint at Beverley, while Kenny the Captain had a similar length victory at Carlisle in a 13-runner field.

Poppies Joy then added a third-place finish for Fentiman in a race at Catterick.

The Market rasen jockey was then on board East Street Revue who scored in a nine-horse race, winning by a full seven lengths after being sent off the 5/1 joint favourite at Hamilton, in Scotland. The victory took Fentiman’s season tally to five.

There was no joy for Fentiman, however, when he teamed up with Nettleton trainer Olly Williams.

The local duo had celebrated together when Tricky Dicky had an early season win at Redcar, but when the horse went to Wetherby he couldn’t repeat that success, finishing seventh in a 14-runner race after being sent off at 10/1.

Williams was the only local trainer to saddle a runner at Friday’s meeting at Market Rasen.

Monbeg Farmer (25/1) finished unplaced in the bumper at the end of the card.

After tracking the leaders early on, he lost ground from six furlongs out, but there is clearly something there for the Wolds handler to work on.

The Community Ports meeting saw an impressive run by Milrow in the opening race, the junior hurdle.

The three-year-old was ridden by Sam Twiston-Davis for Grand National-winning trainer Richard Newland.

On his jumping debut, he impressed with a 10-length win while easing up.

His previous form on the flat had provided plenty of pointers that he could impress over hurdles and the punters clearly thought likewise, sending him off as the 11/8 favourite.

It was a good afternoon all round for favourites with four of them winning on the seven-race card.

Impressive in the feature race, the Associated Ports Handicap Chase (Class 3), was Indian Stream.

She was cruising by the time she approached the last and there should be more to come from the Neil Mulholland-trained horse.
