Market Rasen Racecourse: the bookmakers have the better of Sunday's card with just one winning favourite in seven races

It was very much a day for the bookies at Market Rasen on Sunday’s card with just one winning favourite across the seven-races on the day.
Jockey Gavin Sheehan bagged a double on the day, one of those was on board the only winning favourite Cinquenta.

Cooler Than Me bagged the opening contest of the day for the Fergal O’Brien yard, rallying gamely in the final strides to get up and land the two and a half mile handicap for conditional jockeys. De Deli Counter (25/1) ran a storm in second for the Mick Walford yard to just get chinned on the line by the winner.
Race two on the card saw a field of second tackle the class four novices’ hurdle over two and a half miles and the favourite did the business as the Jamie Snowden-trained Cinquenta landed odds of 6/4, pushed-out on the run and and eased down towards the line to score handily for jockey Gavin Sheehan.
Grandad’s Cap was a cosy winner of the two and a three quarter mile novices’ handicap chase at Market Rasen, race three on the card, easing away in the run-in to land at odds of 15/8 for the Laura Morgan yard. Worth The Walk was second, never really troubling the eventual winner, while Frankie Faulkner was a one-paced third for trainer Evan Williams.
Another favourite failed to trouble the winners’ enclosure in race four at Market Rasen as Sunshine Diamond was a well-beaten fourth in the class four handicap hurdle at 2.20. The race was won by Gold In The Rivers for the David Pipe team, prominent throughout and keeping on well in the run in to score from Secret Trix in second.
Trainer Deborah Cole picked up a win in the class four handicap chaser to mark race five of the card, strongly challenged in the run-in by Impatient but held on to score under a very good ride from Grade 1-winning jockey James Bowen.
Jockey Sheehan picked up his second win on the card when landing the two-mile handicap hurdle at 3.30 on board Kalkaroo. Having gone second two hurdles out, he blundered at the last but rallied under a strong ride from Sheen in the final furlong to eventually score from Mr Zee in second and Thesoldiersmint rounding out the top three.
Finally, the card came to a close with a handicap chase over two miles and three furlongs and there was yet another beaten favourite as Grain Trade and Lone Soldier, both priced at 9/4, could only manage fourth and fifth in a race that was won by Florita for the Simon England team, staying on strongly to win gamely from Chief Black Robe in second.
