The Boston ABC fighter travelled to Clown, Derbyshire, to face Steve Rolfe for the vacant belt.

The four-round bout saw both boxers give everything they had, but it was the Retford ABC man who claimed victory.

Mooney suffered a nasty graze under his right eye in the opening round, but it was not going to cause any major problems during the contest.

In round two, Rolfe came at the Boston pugilist with all guns blazing, and with Mooney offering no reply he was credited with a standing eight count.

The Boston man was pleased to hear the bell and his corner worked hard to get their man to the finishing line and grab the title he has worked so hard for.

With another standing count against him in the third, his hopes off landing the title were diminishing, but a brave effort got him to the end of round four.

The result, unanimous in Rolfe’s favour, saw the victor’s youth playing a major factor.
