Medal haul for local swimmers

Retford Swimming Club were in action at the County Championships at the weekend, with plenty of medals and personal best times.

On Saturday at Water Meadows, Mansfield, Emma Davies took a gold and two silver medals, Joseph Seage a gold and a silver, Oliver Taylor a gold and a bronze, Tom Atkinson three silvers and a bronze, Mia Hunt two bronze medals and Thomas Deeley a bronze.

Tom Atkinson, Emma Davies, Oliver Taylor, Mia Hunt, Thomas Deeley and Callum Kettlewell swam fast enough to reach the finals of their respective 200m races.

There was also 57 personal best times from 71 swims, Emma Davies achieved two Midland qualifying times and Tom Atkinson and Oliver Taylor one apiece.

The swimmers reassembled for the final day of the championships on Sunday for the 100m individual medley events and team relays at Water Meadows, Mansfield.

It was another day of highlights, which included a 100m IM gold medal for Emma Davies, a silver for Tom Atkinson and a bronze for Oliver Taylor in the corresponding boys’ event.

In the relays, the boys’ team of Owen Roberts, Dan Gagg, Toby Sanderson and Tom Atkinson took gold medal in the 16 years freestyle and silver in the medley.

The girls’ Emma Davies, Ellen Dudley, Charlotte Petley and Leah Smith took silver in the 12 years freestyle relay and this was matched by the boys’ 12 years freestyle team of Oliver Taylor, Samuel Templeton, Jacob Roberts and Daniel Atkinson.
