Melrose, who have lost only one of their 13 matches, overcame a tricky fixture at Beckingham, controlling the first half and then surviving a fightback by the hosts to triumph 8-2 (82 shots to 76).

But they have been overtaken on shots aggregate (316 to Melrose’s 204) after two wins in a week by Marshall, who cruised to a 10-0 (81-46) whitewash at Owston Ferry and then beat the same side by the same 10-0 scoreline at home (83 shots to 44).

Scotter sit third after easily inflicting an easy 10-0 defeat (86-36) on visitors Marshall Sports, who are rock-bottom of the table after 11 defeats in a row. Scotter are also favourites to land the Kelsey Cup, which is contested by teams who finish from third to sixth.

Sports replace at the foot of the league North Wheatley, who enjoyed only their fifth win of the season when taking two of the three rinks at mid-table Misterton for a battling 7-3 (56–55) success.

Another struggling outfit, Rose Leisure A, produced a candidate for ‘abysmal performance of the season’ against visitors Marton GB. They lost rinks by 19, 17, 14, and 13 shots to crash 10-0 (105-42) against a Marton team who thoroughly deserved their triumph after several narrow defeats this season.

Meanwhile, in the Hazel Lawrence semi–finals, Scotter comfortably beat Rose Leisure by 81 shots to 48, and Melrose knocked out Beckingham surprisingly comfortably by 73 shots to 47.
