Merry angling!

Once you have had your fill of turkey and watching the telly you may want to clear the cobwebs off and get onto the bank or beach.

So to help you out we have compiled a list of venues and tackle shops’ closure times and phone numbers to avoid disappointment.

Starting in Worksop, Ken Wards Sports (01909 472904) will be open on Christmas Eve up until 3.30pm and will be opening on the 28th, 29th, 30th but shutting New Year’s eve at 4pm and remaining closed until 2nd January.

Gateford Angling Supplies (01909 531115) will be open on Christmas Eve until dinner time and will be closed on the 26th 27th and 28th, then shutting from New Year’s Eve until the 2nd January.

Greg at Worksop Angling Supplies on Retford Road will be opening as normal on Christmas Eve, shutting Christmas day and Boxing Day and then opening Tuesday through to Friday between 8am and 12pm.

Saturday 31st will be normal opening hours, but Greg will then be shut through to the following Tuesday .

Retford Angling Supplies on Thrumpton Lane (07815 308463) will be shut on the 24th but will be opening on Boxing Day and we advise ringing first to confirm the time. They will remain open until New Year’s Eve and then will re-open on the 2nd.

Although all of our local tackle shops are now stocking frozen sea baits, for any beach anglers requiring fresh – our old friend Keith Lamming of East Coast Tackle at Hornsea (01964 535064) will be shutting at 3pm on Christmas Eve and will be opening on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but only from 10am for a couple of hours.

He will be open on New Year’s Eve from 9am to 3pm and will be re opening on the 2nd.

For those of you heading to the commercial fisheries, Lodge Farm will be shut Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day but will be opening as normal for the rest of the holidays with all the usual matches taking place.

In addition there is a Christmas open match on the Tuesday with an entry fee of £15, with a 9am draw at the on site café.

Over at Lakeside Lynda and Steve are only closing for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but please note the café will not be opening throughout the holiday period so pack your flask and sandwiches.
