Mickie misses out on the final

It was not the start Wrangle youngster Mickie Simpson wanted in the first round of the Speedway Winter Series at Scunthorpe.

With 11 riders competing this weekend, including seven British Young Lions, it was always going to be a tough one.

Race one saw Mickie, 12, secure victory, but his next four heats saw him record two seconds and two thirds.

After the heats Mickie was lying in fourth spot meaning he had to win the B Final to book his place in the A final.

However, rival Sam McGurk took the win despite Mickie pushing him all the way.

Round two is on December 11.
