“It was an amazing feeling,” said the 37-year-old, who has recently returned to mixed martial arts following a two-year break.

“He is a wrestler and we had a fight system to stop his wrestling, but it didn’t really happen like that.

“It became more of a battle and I really enjoyed that.”

The BAMMA 25 event at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena on Saturday saw Hallam and Bergman embroiled in a fight which saw both hold the upper hand.

Hallam dropped Bergman, only for his opponent to come back and force the Boston middleweight to the canvas.

But Hallam, nicknamed Farmer Boy, saw his arm raised 87 seconds into round two after a series of strikes dazed the Swede and saw the referee intervene.

After a hiatus from the sport, Hallam says he’s now got that buzz back after a sponsorship deal allows him to train three times each week with the London Shootfighters stable.

“Getting back has made me realise I want to hit this now, 100 per cent.

“It was great to fight again and to be so high up on the BAMMA card.

“There was about 120 people from all over the country who went to watch me - it’s a real boost for me personally to have support like that.”

Hallam is now hoping to fight again in around 10 weeks’ time.
