Monkeys put Anchors away to stay in top spot

They claimed a crushing 10-2 win over Welcome Anchors as Colin Lees (140, 128 finish), David Tuplin (120, 125) and Martin Bell (140, 180) were the high scorers for the Monkeys.

Liberal Lads had a real ding-dong battle with Ex Service Cobras, sharing the singles to be level at 3-3.

They then shared the first two pairs, leaving the game poised at 5-5.

Step up captain Eric Hammond and Terry Cox (124, 140) to win the last game and the match for Liberal, a win that lifts them into second spot.

Cobras had Derek Johnson (121, 133), Ian Chamberlain (3x140) and Darrell Webb (125, 134, 2x140) on the scoresheet.

The in-house derby at the Ex Service between 501s and Sports saw the 501s sink to an 8-4 defeat, giving Sports their first win of the season, Brad Martin chipping in with 180.

A cracker of a game at the Red Lion Burgh saw the hosts face Seaview Oak.

Oak’s Tony Parkin (140, 126 finish and 18 and 19-dart singles legs), Mark Kirby (120, 2x 140, 19-dart leg), Kristian Thein (125, 135 and a 16-dart leg) and Lee Godrich (129, 140) were on the sheet, and Lion’s Chris Simpson (3x140), Tony Holland (128 finish and 18-darter), ensured the singles were shared 3-3.

Colin Pringle and Anthony Hulley hit a 19-dart pairs leg, and Chris Simpson and Tony Holland also had a 19-dart pairs leg as the Lion ran out narrow 7-5 winners

In the Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division Two, Liberal Us took on Chatsworth Hotel - and it was the away side that dominated the singles, storming into a 5-1 lead helped by Ben Etches (121, 170), Liberal then won the first two doubles to level at 5-5, only for Chatsworth duo of C. Arabin and B. Davison to keep their nerve and take the final pairs and the match 7-5.

Finegans were leading the Seaview Raiders 6-2 with help from Scott Millar (140 174), but Raiders’ Kieran Steven Emsen (101 finish) and Barry Taylor, and Steven Emsen and Peter East won the last two pairs and forced an unlikely draw.

Vine and Cricket Club also battled out a 6-6 draw, with Vines’ M. Hartley chipping in with a maximum.

The top two met as Ex Service C took on WMC Aces and, as you would expect, a tight game followed as they shared the singles.

But the Ex Service then took the first two doubles to make the game safe, before David Reding and Gareth Jowett won the last for Aces, but it was too little too late as the home side ran out 7-5 winners to remain top of the league.
