A total of 283 riders made the annual trip to Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands, with Bristow finishing in a creditable 42nd overall.

Riding as number 61, she knew the first two days would be tough, riding at the front of the pack, in very wet conditions.

High water levels forced several sections to be cancelled, but Bristow had a good opening day, slotting into 42nd position.

She had the disadvantage of going out as the 11th rider through the sections the following day and dropped 10 places to 52nd, but Wednesday and Thursday were good days and she climbed back up to 42nd.

Friday, notoriously known for its difficult sections, was perhaps Emma’s best day as she moved up to her best-ever position of 36th before dropping back a little on the final day to 42nd.

“I’m really pleased with my riding all week, it is a very physical event and although I would have liked to have finished higher I have still finished with my best-ever result. Next year my ambition would be to finish in the top 40.

I am proud to be the winner again of the best lady and very happy with the winning margin of 159 marks over the nearest competitor in this class.

“My Sherco 300 has proved once again what a great machine it is, with zero problems all week. I would like to thank everybody at Malcolm Rathmell Sport, David from Sherco Spain and all my other sponsors for such great products making everything about this tough event that little bit easier.”

Bristow’s busy schedule continues with the British Championship Trial in Wales.
