British Superbikes: Rasen rider O'Halloran moves into top six

The two strong results moved the Market Rasen-based rider up into sixth place in the rider standings in the British Superbike Championship on 62 points.

During the second stage of qualifying the Australian rider crashed in the dying seconds of the session.

With only a few minutes to get the bike up and running it was all hands on deck to make the repairs.

O’Halloran had finished in ninth place and was eligible to go into the final stage which determined grid positions for race on Sunday.

He was able to get out on track for the final few laps, but was unable to make any headway and started the race from the third row.

As the race got under way, O’Halloran settled into ninth place and eventually got himself into a position to overtake John Hopkins and move up into eighth.

After that it was an uneventful race and he circulated in eighth place throughout the remainder of the 30-lap affair.

Starting race two once more from the third row, O’Halloran completed the first few laps in seventh place.

The eventual race winner Shakey Byrne passed him on lap five, but he remained in eighth position and gradually made up ground on the leading group.

By lap 21 he was latched onto the back of the group and soon found himself up into seventh.

With two laps remaining he passed Christian Iddon and moved up into sixth place where he remained to the chequered flag.

The championship now takes a break for the Isle of Man TT races, with the next round at Knockhill, in Scotland, on June 26.
