Lady luck deserts Silvester... again

If Aaron Silvester didn’t get bad luck he would have no luck at all.

The Tattershall rider again had to take avoiding action in his race and ended up riding across the grass before finally crashing out of round two of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 championship at Snetterton on Sunday.

Qualifying went well for Silvester who braved the strong winds to set a fast lap and secure second place to claim his first front row start to Sunday’s 12 lap affair.

He said: “I reckon that will do the job! I am well chuffed to get my first front row start in BSB Stock 600!

“I found an extra gear today; with the wind speeds a little lower I was able to get into a rhythm on my own in the early laps of the session.

“I was on pole with two minutes left in the session when Rhys Irwin set a flyer to go pole.”

As the lights went out for the start of the race Silvester got a good start and was running in second place behind Simon Reid.

But on the third lap, with all the riders bunched together Liam Delves went down and Silvester had to run across the grass to avoid him.

He managed to control the bike and rejoined the race down in 17th place. But in his efforts to catch up the front runners he crashed at Coram on lap four, his race over once again.

He commented: “It has been another rollercoaster of a weekend here at Snetterton for BSB Stock 600.

“My first front row start at British championship level and I was running comfortably in second-third place through the first couple of laps.

“I made a clean move for second again into the hairpin; saw another bike up the inside so I sat up, next thing there was yet another bike on the floor underneath my bike forcing me to go straight on.

“I rejoined in 19th, so frustrated. I got my head down, made up a couple of places, but unfortunately pushed a little too hard and lost the front into Coram, writing the bike off.

“Apologies to all my team and sponsors for making a silly mistake. Thank you all for your constant belief in me! Thank you to my top supporters, Andrew and Jo, who are already on the case trying to get me out at Silverstone in two weeks where we look to continue progress and hopefully stay out of trouble.”

The next round is at Silverstone on September 4-6.
