Market Rasen race twins make Thruxton debut

Despite some electrical problems preventing him from securing a good grid position, Tom completed his race in 20th, while Tim finished in 15th to claim one championship point.

It was the first visit to Thruxton for the Market Rasen twins, but Tim sailed through his qualifying to begin the 14-lap race from the sixth row of the grid.

He rode a good, close race and was hovering around 15th for most of it, but was pushed back to 17th when Lewis Rollo shot past. On the final lap he overtook Tom Carne to move back into 16th at the flag.

A post-race disqualification of a rider higher up the field promoted Tim up to the final point-scoring place.

Tom, meanwhile, was hardly unable to turn a wheel throughout free practice and qualifying because of electrical problems on the Kawasaki and just made it onto the grid, dead last in 40th place.

With little or no track knowledge Tom faced an uphill struggle to get anywhere, but he made a fantastic start, making up 10 places in the first two laps.

By lap nine he was up to 26th and running at a strong pace, matching the speed of the top few riders. He continued to make up places, picking off riders one by one, until he reached 21st with four laps left.

Unable to advance further he held station to the flag, and he, too, was elevated a place to 20th, and considering his earlier problems was pleased with his result.

“I’ve been riddled with electrical problems all weekend,” he said. “I hadn’t done any laps until Saturday evening’s warm-up and as I’ve never seen the place before I’m happy to get to 20th from last on the grid.

“I’m sure if I’d been able to get as much time on the bike as everyone else I could have been looking at a top 10.”

The next round is at Brands Hatch from August 5 to 7. The 21-year-old twins are much more familiar with the track layout at the Kent circuit and will be seeking good results.
