Following his crash at Brands Hatch two weeks ago, Crowe was referred to a top surgeon in Derby where he had an operation last Thursday to fix his badly broken hand and wrist.

He explained: “The bone fragments are very small and complex so the surgeon at Lincoln referred me to a specialist in Derby who performed the operation.

“A screw was needed to fix five pieces of bone together and two plates to secure the other seven bits.

“They also discovered two breaks in different parts of my wrist, but I was told that they should be okay and don’t need further treatment.”

He added: “I feel extremely ropey right now. I have had lots of surgery over the years and normally once the operation is over I get some relief, but not this time.

“The pain is intense, far worse than when I actually had the accident. But once the morphine kicks in, things should start to improve.”

Crowe is hoping to be out of the cast in four weeks and will then have some physiotherapy to get the hand working again.

He is facing a race against time to be fit for the North West 200 in Ireland in eight weeks’ time.
