Motorcycling: Mixed fortunes for Neave twins at Brands Hatch

There were mixed fortunes for Market Rasen twins Tom and Tim Neave in round eight of the Superstock 600 Championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

Tom completed the race in a fine 11th place, but his brother Tim was unlucky to crash unhurt after just three laps of the Kent circuit.

Qualifying in 26th, Tom began his campaign from the ninth row and got away to a fantastic start.

He was up to 19th place on the first lap and into a points-scoring position of 15th one lap later.

He became embroiled in a seven-rider battle for 11th place and positions were exchanged frequently between the riders until lap nine when Tom made it through to the head of the group.

He was looking to make a further move forward and up into the top 10 when the race was red-flagged when three riders went down on lap 11.

A result was declared on positions at the end of lap 10 with Tom awarded 11th place and five championship points to bring his overall total to 19.

Tim started the race a row behind his brother on row 10 after qualifying in 28th position.

He was making good progress and up to 20th on lap three when it all went wrong and he crashed unhurt at Druids hairpin.

The 21-year-old twins’ will have the advantage of circuit knowledge when the next round visits Cadwell Park over the bank holiday weekend of August 27 to 29.

Both riders will be seeking good points finishes in front of their family, friends, local sponsors and supporters.
