Sidecar duo extend British Championship lead at Donington Park

Louth sidecar passenger Jevan Walmsley celebrated another winning weekend as he and Pete Founds stretched their lead in the British F2 Championship.

Having opened the season with a double win at Oulton Park, the pair headed for two more championship races in the second round at Donington Park.

It was clear they meant business right from the off as they set the fastest lap in a busy free practice, but a heavy vibration at the front of the bike caused some frantic stripping and checking of the machine in preparation for qualifying.

This hard work paid off as the team set the fastest lap of the session to secure a second consecutive pole position.

Pete and Jev got the holeshot into the first corner of race one, closely pursued by title rivals, Lee Crawford and Pat Farrance, Ian and Carl Bell, and Steve and Matty Ramsden.

But Pete and Jev took control, leading from start to finish, and breaking the lap record in the process, to finish 5.14 seconds ahead of Crawford and Farrance.

They took a gamble and adjusted the gearing to gain more top speed, at the cost of acceleration, in race two which would also double up as the prestigious Bill Boddice Trophy Race.

Pete and Jev again hit the front, but With the lap times a little down on the previous day’s record pace, it was clear the changes had not given the expected improvements.

But with some smooth, fast and consistent laps they stretched out a small lead on each lap, and after the engine of Lee Crawford and Pat Farrance’s machine expired on the final lap, Pete and Jev finished a comfortable 13 seconds clear of the Ramsdens, with the Bells following in third.

Their attention now turns to the Isle of Man where Pete an Jev will compete in their first TT together, starting at number 35.
