NETBALL: Sleaford Barge teams triumph in Lincoln competition
In the morning rounds, Hurricanes were undefeated all day, beating all teams convincingly, whilst Lightning had a more difficult morning with mixed results. Hurricanes qualified for the top group and Lightning for Division Three heading into the afternoon rounds.
Lightning played fantastic netball in the afternoon, beating local Lincoln sides Washingborough Imps and Lincoln U16 to win their group.
Being placed in the top group for the afternoon, Hurricanes had some tough opposition ahead. Their first game was against a competitive Boston NC side who had lost to the Sleaford side in the morning and were coming into this game with a determined attitude.
The first half was contested closely but in the second half, Sleaford’s experience and superior fitness saw them pull away to take a convincing win. The next game was against MRS Coldstores, a Grimsby-based side with experience, however they were unable to take up the challenge against the unstoppable Sleaford side and Hurricanes took the game 24-5.
Hurricanes headed into the last game against a strong Skegness side. The game started goal for goal but Hurricanes started to capitalise on the opposition’s errors, taking a healthy lead. The Skegness side never gave up and kept pressuring Hurricanes to maintain their work to ensure the win.
Three out of three wins in the afternoon meant that Hurricanes won the overall tournament.
