No cup upsets as five teams stick to form

THE Nursing Association Cup took centre stage at the weekend with five Round Two matches taking place.

A sixth, between Morton Amateurs and Ropery Inn, was called off when Morton were unable to raise a team.

In the ties that were played there no upsets with all the form teams winning their matches.

Bridon AFC, who have enjoyed good form in Division Two this season, found high flying Smiffys FC just too good for them and lost 7-1.

Rampton Hospital carried too much ability for a gallant East Drayton, who gave it their best effort, but the 3-1 scoreline in favour of Rampton was just about the right result.

Sun Inn Wheatley put in a good effort against AFC Friendship and can hold their heads high despite losing 4-1.

Wroot, who are normally a difficult team to beat on their own ground, found White Lion from Retford far too good for them and went down 9-0.

In the only all-Division Two tie of the round table-topping Mattersey FC played host to Marshalls Sports and after a hard-fought match it was Mattersey who won through 3-1.

In the only league match played, Harworth Colliery continued their rich vein of form with a 5-1 home win over a hard-working Retford Town Reserves.

This win sees Harworth move to the top of Division One and, with Smiffys FC, White Lion and AFC Friendship also in the running for the title, the league looks to have an exciting last quarter of the season in prospect.
