Beckingham Bowls Club have paid tribute to Shirley Wilson following her death.

Shirley, who passed away peacefully on 28 June, was a playing member of the club for many years and was social secretary until she retired from this position in 2013.

She organised the catering for gala days and was always on hand at home matches to prepare and serve refreshments.

Shirley was presented with a climbing rose on her “retirement’ continued to enjoy attending club functions and present the club trophies in 2018.

A club spokesman said: “Shirley gave so much to our club and indeed to our village, and touched the lives of many. She will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with her family.”

Elsewhere, the first club night was help on 2 July, but due to the inclement weather, only five members played on two separate rinks.

The Thursday club nights will continue and the green will be open to members all week from noon with strict guidelines in place relative to Covid-19.

The club are holding a club singles on Saturday 11 July and 14 members have indicated that they wish to compete for the Charles Lundy trophy.

The competition starts at 10am and players should arrive by 9.30 to be included in the draw.

The tea room and pavilion will not be open, everybody has been advised to bring their own chairs and refreshments, and washing and sanitizing materials will be available in our refurbished toilet.
