Beckingham fill league void with friendly

With all league matches cancelled for the season, Beckingham and Marton & G.B. arranged and played a home and away friendly match on Saturday

Three Beckingham pairs played three Marton pairs at Beckingham with three woods per player over 21 ends on alternate rinks.

The same format was played at Marton with players enjoying the chance to have a competitive game.

At Beckingham, the hosts’ pairs of Geoff Proudley & Peter Cawthorne and Bob Brindle & Roger Platts won by five and 15 shots respectively, whilst for Marton, Ron Sharpe & Keith Worrell won by 12 shots.

At Marton, Beckingham’s three pairs of John Foster & Stuart Moody, Brian Burton & Roy Clegg and Carole Booth & John Cawkwell won by two, 11 and one shot respectively.

Both Beckingham and Marton greens played satisfactorily considering the greens had been cored two weeks prior to this match, which is a necessary procedure normally carried out at the end of a full season.

Both clubs have been open for play by their members since early June, following approved Bowls England guidance.
