Boston Triathlon Club and Boston Amateur Swimming Club came together on the Witham last week to compete for the Wells Cup.

Action unfolded at Langrick Bridge where a total of 12 swimmers, six from each club, took part in three very exciting races.

The distance was 1k, with each race a distance of 500m down the river to touch the awaiting kayak before returning home.

The swimmers involved where Lea Ball, Nick Ward. Chris Firth, Seb South, Ben Marsters and Tom Sargeant of the triathlon club and swimmers Avril Porter, Sally Norman, Chris Willerton, Dan Pearson, Elvijs Roberts and Tom Marsters.

"It was a great morning's racing watched by a small but enthusiastic crowd who were on the east bank near the Witham and Blues restaurant," explained organiser Steve Roberts.

The trophy was named in honour of outgoing swimming club head coach Ian Wells, who was there to present the cup to the winning team.

Boston Tri came out on top by a final score of 18 points to Boston Swimming Club's 12.

The Richard Howes Trophy for the best swim of the day was chosen by Wells and presented to Seb South.

Seb's time was the quickest as he completed the 1k course in 14 mins 50 secs, beating teammate Ben Marsters by one second

Richard Howes was a member of the Boston ASC, who sadly passed in 2013.

He was the club's longest-serving member, a black belt at judo, and when he joined the club in 1948 they swam in the Witham.
