Two Horncastle powerlifters have booked their place at October’s World Championships in Sweden.

Ted Byrne and Sue Giles ensured they will be on the plane after impressing at the British Masters Classic.

Both claimed a series of British records along the way as they dominated proceedings in superb style.

Byrne - weighing in at 57 kilos in the 59 class and lifting in the Masters 4 category - won his title with two British records.

He squatted 110 kilos, bench pressed 75 kilos and deadlifted 185.5 kilos.

His deadlift was a British Masters 3 and 4 record.

His total was also a Masters 4 record 370.5 of kilos.

Giles was lifting in the Masters 3 over 60s category.

She took her title by setting British records all the way with a 110 kilos squat, 57.5 kilos bench press and a 120 kilos deadlift for a 287.5 kilos total.

Her classic records also eclipsed the equipped records, giving her eight British records in all and the fourth biggest total of all time by an over 60 lady.
