Defeat for leaders in bowls league

Leaders Eastenders were beaten in the Boston Indoor Bowls League’s Orchard Health Group Division One.

Matched against Holland Fen, Stuart Moore, Louise Catchpole and Jordan Philpot pipped the Fenmen trio of Danny Stanton, George Hardstaff and Jim Gott 20-18. Adrian Field, Mark Whyers and Wayne Phoenix were beaten 17-14 by Bazza Wilson, Brian Boucher and Richard Vinter, who claimed the aggregate points by one shot.

Second-place Carlton Road defeated Jolly Farmers with skips Chris Gill and Les Feary successful 30-11 and 23-20. The margin at the top now only one point.

Breakaways recorded a good result against IBC as Mark Brown, Roger Lynn and Derek Butwright succeeded 22-15. Lynn Limb, Anne Jackson and Ivan Dilley were pipped 21-20 by Dennis Ellis, Geof Powell and Pete Stringfellow.

A40 again struggled for points. Matched against Parthians, Jean Cammack picked up two with a win of 18-10 but the aggregate went to Parthians with John Clark, Pete Sharman and Keith Nix winning 22-12.

Down at the bottom of the table, Boston Park won against Red 5 with Alan Batchelor taking the aggregate points with a 19-6 success.

Invaders proved to strong for Punchbowlers with Andrew Dunnington, Adam Hodgson and Ian Tebbs winning 24-5 and Nathan Dunnington, Rod West and Scott Whyers posting a winning scorecard of 24-12.

In the T&B Containers Division Two, Royal Mail widened their lead at the top when they collected all the points from the Burtons.

Barbara Kenny, Ted Bloodworth and Geoff Taylor won 24-8 and Carol Clarke, Jill Smith and Alan Hill hung on to win 21-18.

Poachers and Strollers, in second and third respectively, met with Strollers winning the lion’s share of the points. But they are still six points behind their opponents.

For Poachers, Grace Bristow, Steve Robinson and Bob Tingey established a good lead which was closed down, but the last two ends went to Bob and a win of 17-14. For the Strollers, picking up the extra points were Nigel Kenworthy, Kevin Manning and Alan Everitt, 21-13.

Possibly the best result of the week was Dynamics’ success against Cosmos, skips Alan West and Graham Wilkinson successful 15-10 and 25-8.

The Golfers skips Graham Scarboro and David Marshall claimed all the points from Autos with wins of 23-8 and 14-13.

Nomads’ Di Cuppleditch, Ken Burr and Derek Smith hung on at the finish to win 17-15 against Central’s Brian Hunn, while Kate Maddison, Mel Maddison and Richard Keeling stormed away to win 23-7.

Cammacks Division Three leaders Pilgrims were given a fright by second-botttom U3, the latter just losing the aggregate points by one shot.

For U3, Thompson-Rymer-Rymer triumphed 17-11 while replying for the Pilgrims, and snatching the additional points, were Mick Jacklin, Roger Pepperdine and Ted Bourne, 21-14.

The Saxons versus Bias saw the underdogs winning all the points, John Hodgson successful 19-11 and Tracey Hodgson 15-14 for the Saxons.

Vikings, in second, saw two points slip away. Matched against Shipmates, John Millership won 23-11 for Vikings which covered the reply from William Parker, who triumphed 25-15.

The Fairways included the Golfers’ Mick Nundy in their line-up against the Vectors and the team tied 13-13 against Terry Derbyshire. Nick Whitmore won the rest of the points for the Vectors, 25-10.

Hotspurs proved too strong for the bottom team Phantoms and won 31-21 overall.
