Hockey club gets into the Christmas spirit

January 4 will see club members return to action in preparation for upcoming league action.

Since lockdown Louth’s teams have competed in friendly matches to maintain fitness, however they have also been getting into the Christmas spirit.

Members gave food and household items to the town’s community larder after generous donations.

The club decided to ask for donations as it was unable to hold a Christmas party, and members rose to the challenge.

They donated items at several recent training sessions, held after the recent month-long lockdown ended in early December.

Club chairman Lesley Ward said: “We are a family club, with members ranging from seven to 70 years old, so we thought we would do something to help those in need.

“This year has been especially difficult for many people, with the pandemic hitting families hard. We just wanted to do what we could to help.

“One of our members, Lara Shoubridge, suggested that we gather donations for the Louth Community Larder at our recent training games. Our members were brilliant in bringing food and other goods, as you can see from the collections.

“We normally hold a Christmas party but this year most of our social events have been cancelled. We have managed to resume training and we count ourselves lucky that we have been able to get back on the pitch - this is our way of giving back.”

The club donated the goods at the Trinity Centre and they will now be distributed to families in need. The community larder accepts donations from Monday to Friday, 9-10am.
