Top three all sign off with maximum points

The top three all entered the Boston Indoor Bowling League’s festive break with six points in the bag.

Orchard Health Group Division One leaders Carlton Road, with a seven point advantage over Eastenders, played Parthians and recorded an overall win of 54-20.

Eastenders faced Boston Park and produced a win of 56-25 while third-placed Invaders were matched against IBC.

Steve Shaw, Richard White and Richard Pearson forged ahead at the start when they held a lead of 10 shots with seven ends played, but the Invaders’ trio of Adam Hodgson, Andrew Dunnington and Ian Tebbs, 16-12 down at 15 ends, scored a crucial count of five on end 16 which eased them into the lead and they claimed the points with a 19-17 result.

Liam Reeson, Sandra Tebbs and Rod West, in an evenly balanced first half of the game against IBC skip Pete Stringfellow, put in a strong second period, scoring 13 shots to 3 in reply and won 23-11.

Holland Fen, in fourth, proved too strong for Punchbowlers.

Brian Boucher recovered from a 11-6 deficit to win 20-16 and Richard Vinter fell behind on the second end against Ian Drury.

But then it was virtually one way traffic with Richard successful 28-8.

A40, in sixth spot, are 12 points adrift of IBC in fifth and are possibly having their worst season for some time.

Matched against bottom team Red 5, Louise Lody, Yvonne Smith and Ian Smith would have been disappointed to lose their game against Jake Hewinson, Maggie Kisby and Jean Cammack.

They led 13-7 but the A40 trio fought back to secure a 15-14 win while the other rink succeeded 21-12.

Breakaways and Jolly Farmers shared the rink points.

For the Breakaways, Derek Butwright won 18-16. Replying for the Farmers, and for the extra points, David Allen won 27-8.

Breakaways, Boston Park and Red 5 have to pick up their game in the second half of the season to avoid a relegation battle.

In the T&B Containers Division Two, leaders Royal Mail could afford to drop two points this week but still widen the gap on their nearest rivals Poachers, who failed to pick up a point.

The Mail, matched against Patriarchs, won 40-32 and are looking certainties to making a quick return to the top division.

Poachers came up against a very good performance from Nomads, who hold fourth spot.

Kate Maddison, Richard Keeling and Barry Beagles, 10-2 ahead, let Poachers skip Mick Dodes ease back into the game, but the higher team held their nerve and triumphed 15-12.

Derek Smith, for the Nomads, won the rest of the points with a comfortable 25-10 result.

Strollers, in third, moved closer to Poachers when they picked all six points from the Golfers.

Skips Tony Beck and Alan Everitt secured wins of 20-12 and 27-15.

The Burtons nearly picked up six points from Central.

Gordon Neal found himself well behind in the early stages but made a good recovery and only lost by two shots to Brian Hunn, 18-16.

Burtons captain Dave Bailey, matched against Central captain Fred Epton, was 12-11 down at 13 ends put in a strong finish to win 20-12 for four points against higher opponents.

The Hotspurs are certainly the hot team in the Cammacks Division Three, with the exception of leaders Pilgrims.

Matched against a strong Saxons team, the Hotspurs skips Simon Sperring and Robert Druce secured successes of 18-9 and 19-11.

Leaders Pilgrims are maintaining their position and even widening it as their nearest rivals droppped points.

Matched against Bias, Pilgrims skips Michael Penfold and Neil Harrison triumphed 23-14 and 13-11.

Vikings, in second, shared the rink points with U3 but a win of 26-7 from John Stray secured the aggregate for the team as U3 replied 23-12.

The Fairways versus Phantoms game saw the aggregate points going in favour of the Fairways by a three-shot margin with and overall win of 29-26.

Third-placed Vectors saw all the points going to their opponents Amateurs.

Skips Mick Greet and Tony Nixon had winning scorecards of 20-18 and 17-5.
