Peacock Veterans given a Real hiding

MUCH of the action in the Gainsborough and District Sunday Football League centred on the first round of the Trinity Trophy.

The all-Premier League clash between Kings Arms and Vine Inn Athletic ended with a comfortable 4-1 win for the former, while a top v bottom of Division One contest saw leaders BFC Birches defeat East Markham.

Stanwood Engineering of Division Three tried their hardest against Division Two’s Misterton United but in the end the higher placed club went through to the next round with a 5-2 away win.

The mis-match of the day saw Premier League team Real Ropery hammer Division Three side Peacock Veterans 14-1.

In Division One Canutes gave a real shock to visitors Harworth when they beat them 5-2, while Marshalls Sports visited Beckett Arms and came away with a fine 4-1 victory.

There was a goal spree involving the two games played in Division Two, White Horse coming out on top 6-5 at Horse and Jockey and leaders Moorends SC beating a gallant Epworth FC 6-4.

In the Nottinghamshire County Sunday Senior Trophy round two FS Clumber recorded a 3-1 victory over Station Hotel to progress to round three.

Division Two

Horse and Jockey 5, White Horse 6

WHITE Horse made hard work of their second victory over Horse and Jockey in as many weeks, coming out 6-5 winners after being 6-0 up and coasting.

The first half performance was a joy to watch as the team spread the ball about and played good attacking football.

Tom Peart particularly stood out in a new attacking midfield role which saw him with time on the ball to demonstrate great skills and a fantastic final ball.

White Horse went ahead through new signing Shane Bailey who bagged himself two goals, and Alan Conway was once again on the scoresheet, showing that he can score from either a striker or midfield role.

Ashley Page showed once again that when it comes to free kicks there is no one better in all four divisions, as he scored a hat-trick with two of the goals coming from 25-yard free kicks. He is on a roll so far this season having scored eight goals in six competitive games for White Horse, and quite rightly he picked up the man of the match award in this game.

After being 6-0 down Horse and Jockey suddenly sprang into life and managed to score five goals in the last 15 minutes to make the ending very tense for a White Horse side rapidly gathering speed as they charge for the top of the table.

Next up is a home game against Clarborough FC who, despite losing their last two games, could provide a stern test for high flying White Horse.
