Personal bests for veteran Stridersat town's Parkrun

The best of the Gainsborough and Morton Striders members who tackled the Gainsborough Parkrun were two of the club's senior runners, Kev Lovett and Norman Hindley, who both ran personal best times.

Lovett, who runs in the V55 age group, chopped almost half a minute off his previous best with his 25minutes 34seconds time.

Hindley’s 48-seconds improvement to 26:54 catapulted him to fifth place in Gainsborough’s V65 age group rankings.

They weren’t the oldest runners on the day. That accolade was shared by Cliff Middleton and David Allen, in the V70 age category, who ran 28:24 and 41:26 respectively.

Allen’s wife, Maureen, just a week after completing the Gainsborough 10k and a fortnight after her debut half marathon, finished in 37:40.

Sally and Craig Williamson completed the course together in just over 32 minutes.

James Croft celebrated his 50th running of the Gainsborough course by being the first Strider home, in 19:49, three places ahead of Timothy Smithson [21:25] and nine ahead of Stephen Toward [25:11].

The remaining member of the Strider contingent, Kirsty Smithson, finished her 52nd run in 30:22.

At Scunthorpe Parkrun, younger Striders produced the best results. Jasper Humphries ran 20:15 and his younger brother, Joe, 22:52.

Thomas Sweeting was sandwiched between them with 20:46. Behind them were Emma Humphries [22:53] and David Sweeting [23:09].

Craig Ward finished the Clumber Park Parkrun in 21:34 and Karen Ramsdale the Tees Barrage event in 27:02.

Racing will resume in earnest this weekend as several Striders will make the short trip to Lincoln to join about 5000 other runners in the Asda Foundation City of Lincoln 10K.

The regular weekly club training sessions will continue with the Juniors meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Gainsborough Academy. The Thursday senior session starts at 6:30 p.m. from Queen Elizabeth High School while their next Tuesday evening senior session will begin from DW Sports in Marshall’s yard at 7:15 p.m. Despite the lighter evenings hi-visibility clothing will still be required for both adult sessions. Anyone wishing to join in with us will be more than welcome.”
