Pogson claims Midlands title against old foe

The heavyweight defeated old foe and defending champion Ross Hollis by a unanimous decision in front of a lively crowd at Skegness’ Richmond Holiday Park.

“After all the hard work it’s starting show,” said the 20-year-old, who has also previously won the ABA East Midlands title.

“I’ve been training hard in the gym with my coaches Steve (Davison) and Marv (Wiltshire), sparring with Callum (Johnson, his cousin and Commonwealth light heavyweight champion).

“And with some really good sponsors behind me, having people believe in me makes me want to work harder and repay them all.

“It felt brilliant having the belt given to me, I loved it.”

Pogson went into the contest level on one win apiece with Hollis, but he believes his new focus made a huge difference.

“I won every round,” he said.

“I could feel the difference, I think I’m getting better all the time.”

The Boston Boxing Academy fighter says he is now looking to step up to the next level.

He added: “I want to start fighting further away, round the country and trying to win some other belts now too.

“I’m only 20 and believe it’s time to go for it.”
