Ray passes away

Ray was a founder member of the Railway Club, now Stanley Streets Sports and Social, coarse and sea fishing sections and as such was truly a ‘proper’ all rounder – as happy sat on a bankside, beach or boat.

He was an inspiration to all, passing on his knowledge in his own quiet, steady style and a smile was never far from his face.

Worksop & DAA.secretary Derek Brown said: “Ray is going to be sadly missed and his support and expertise will be sadly missed.”

In last Sunday’s club match all the members held a minute’s silence in respect of a truly great man and angler.

He will be sadly missed by all those fortunate enough to know him.

Dorian Lane is organising a charity memorial match in memory of late father David on Saturday 11th August at Aston Ponds.

It will be competed on the prolific split and lily pools with a 9am draw at the fishery with fishing taking place between the hours of 10am and 4pm.

The entry fee is £15 with tickets available from all of Worksop’s three tackle shops, as well as from Dorian at the Colliery Inn on Sandy Lane.

The match is in aid of Bassetlaw Hospice.

Worksop & District Anglers Association will be organising a taster session on Sandhill Lake on 15th August when the association’s licensed and registered coaches, Glyn Williams, Matt Godfrey, Doreen and Garry Butt will be giving local youngsters the opportunity to have a go at angling as part of their involvement with the Angling Trust’s National Fishing Month Project.

THE Tuesday club held their latest match on the maid marion lake at Little John fisheries: 1st Sid Whitehouse 48lb 11oz peg 8 pellet feeder, 2nd Steve Pogson 44lb 7oz peg 10 pellet feeder and wagller, 3rd John Moore 39lb 4oz peg 16 pole fished meat.

Manton AC fished the top pond at Lodge Farm last Sunday where all the main frame took exclusively all carp nets: 1st Steve Lockton 42lb 1oz peg 26 pellet waggler, 2nd Alan Slater 33lb 2oz peg 23 meat on feeder, 3rd Dave Wilson 26lb 12oz peg 45 pole and pellet.

Grafton AA visited Aston Fisheries where they competed on the split pond: 1st Ian Toppham 39lb 3oz pole and pellet, 2nd Simon Short 37lb 8oz pole fished caster, 3rd George Aidey 27lb 4oz pole and pellet.

The Dinnington Welfare Anglers fished the field pond at Lodge Farm where the main frame fished the pole and feeder for mixed nets: 1st John Smith 60lb 4oz peg 25, 2nd Nathan Donnelly 45lb 9oz peg 16, 3rd Glyn Kaye 32lb peg 23.

The British Gas members visited Clearwater Lake at Ranskill last Thursday: 1st Mel Kirton peg 1 96lb all carp catch with pellet with fish to double figures, 2nd Keith Walters peg 17 74lb 09oz pole/pellet fished up in water with carp and bream, 3rd Steve Pogson peg 9 62lb 12oz pole/up in water with maggot/mainly ide and one double figure carp in margin.

Their next match is on 9th August at Little John Fishery, Ollerton.

The Harworth Comrades Club fished at L:akeside Fishery on the match lake: 1st Les Richmond 85lb 12oz peg 27 pole fished luncheon meat, 2nd Steve Martin 68lb 1oz peg 26, 3rd Paul Brazier 53lb 14oz peg 39.

The Stanley St Social Club fished on Sunday 29th July at Kiveton Farm Fishery’s top pond: 1st Mel Kirton peg 34 54lb 12oz bomb fished pellet fished down margins and three carp with paste later in match (all carp catch), 2nd Steve Hill peg 13 41lb pole/expander pellet/bream with three carp, 3rd Shaun Storey peg 32 38lb feeder/pole/mainly carp catch.

The next match is on 12th August at Lindolme Lakes (Laurels) with the draw at 8.30am.

The members representing Batchelors AC made the long journey to the carp mecca at Boddingtons reservoir: 1st Chris Eves peg 91 206lb carp wag’ pellet, 2nd Ray Ancliff peg 89 135lb carp bomb pellet, 3rd Sean Batty peg 88 134lb carp bomb pellet, Steve Fielding peg 81 134lb carp bomb pellet.

COMMERCIAL ROUND-UP

AT Riverside Fishery Mick Hall is proving to be an irresistible force.

In the first match on Tuesday: 1st Mick Hall 46lb peg 33 pole and pellet, 2nd Steve Armistead 24lb 11oz peg 1 pole fished meat.

Wednesday: 1st Mick Hall 91lb 1oz peg 14 pole and pellet, 2nd Keith Noble 29lb 5oz peg 32 pole fished pellet.

Friday’s contest: 1st Mick Hall 117lb peg 10 pole and pellet, 2nd Terry Pixley 38lb 9oz peg 43 bomb and meat.

Saturday’s match: 1st Keith Ridley 52lb peg 32 pole fished corn, 2nd Terry Pixley 35lb 9oz peg 34 bomb and meat.

Down the road at Lakeside Fishery, Wednesday’s open saw Luke Sears claim victory pole fishing luncheon meat on peg 18 to record a mixed net of 79lb 7oz.

Sunday’s Mansfield Piscatorial competition was won by Daz stayley who fished the maggot feeder for all silver fish net of 81lb 5oz on peg 27.

On the carp lake Ricky Pugh landed seven specimens which included a fine ghostie of 28lb 6oz on his cell boilies from peg 5 whilst over on the trout lake Mike Canton slipped his landing net under 11 fish to 6lbs on his bloodworm cast on a sinking line
