Relegation battle heating up in Div One

WORKSOP LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

MOST of the action this week in Division One centred around the battle to avoid the trap door to Division Two, with Ryton Park Adders losing ground on the other teams around them.

Playing two matches on consecutive nights against fellow relegation candidates probably did them no favours losing both 7-3.

Their first match was against fellow strugglers Stanley Street B and it didn’t help coming up against an in-form Peter Eyre.

Eyre who is enjoying some of the best form of his life comfortably won all his three games and was well supported by Dave Hodgkin who won two with Alex Millward contributing with a single win.

Eyre then teamed up with Nigel Stent to win the doubles and complete the scoreline.

Andy Lee with two wins and Carl Stones with one were the scorers for the Adders.

Twenty-four hours later the Adders came up against club colleagues Ryton Park Bees in a match that was a little closer than the scoreline suggested, but still came out second best.

Buzzing for the Bees was Joe Else who notched up an impressive hat-trick with Matthew Lemon, who is having a good start to the season, scoring two wins and Brian Allen chipped in with a single win.

Again Andy Lee for the Adders won two of his three games and with John Hallgarth winning one it proved yet again not to be enough to affect the final outcome of the match.

Lee and Hallgarth then teamed up in the doubles but lost out in a five-set thriller against Else and Lemon.

Ryton Park Bees also played two matches this week and again came up against one of their relegation rivals in Global Marble.

Kalpesh Bhatt starred for Global but despite winning all his games found his side behind 5-4 coming into the final game of the night.

Lemon (2), Allen (2) and Else had put the Bees on the brink of another win before the deciding doubles rubber, Allen and Lemon teaming up to take on Bhatt and Paul Linfield.

Close games ensued before Bhatt and Linfield won 3-1 and ensured that honours were even in a 5-5 draw.

Other results: MBE 1 DTH Redlands Fluffy Toys 9.

DIVISION THREE

DTH Redlands Allsorts continued their title charge with yet another 10-0 win, this time against Centre For Sport.

Tom McIntosh continues to be the player to beat for the Allsorts and remains unbeaten with an outstanding individual record of 24 straight wins.

Another hat-trick for Tom along with hat -ricks for Lewis Comley and Lee Bohan proved far too much for the Sport team.

Hot on their tails are Stanley Street B who caught up on their games and with their large squad actually played two matches on the same evening at the same venue but with two different line-ups.

The trio of Ray Lucas and Glyn and Matthew Williams had little trouble overcoming DTH Redlands Dynamos 9-1 with only Kash Tutter for the Dynamos managing a win.

Their second game was against much tougher opposition in the previously unbeaten DTH Redlands Tarr Babies but the stronger line-up of Ralph Rodda and Andy Kirkland and Jack Kirkland put in an impressive performance running out 8-2 winners.

Jack Kirkland won three with Dad Andy and Rodda each winning a further two each before the two Kirklands joined forces to win the doubles.

The two wins for Stanley Street now makes the Division Three title a two horse race as they now sit in second place only one point behind leaders DTH Redlands Allsorts.

Division Three results: Ryton Park Cougars 0 DTH Redlands Tarr Babies 10, Ryton Park Dragons 0 DTH Redlands Rookies 10

Division Two results: Ryton Park Eagles 1 DTH Redlands Echidnas 9, DTH Redlands Morris Men 5 Manton Tigers 5.
