Retford in third place

Retford Swimming Club finished third, after the third round of the Notts ASA Stage Two gala at Worksop.

They were competing against teams from Chesterfield, Mansfield, Kimberley, Sherwood Colliery and Hucknall/Linby. 

In a 49-event competition the Retford team claimed 39 top three finishes, including seven wins which ensured a strong position throughout.

The first win came in the fifth event, the 12/u 50m breaststroke, from Samuel Templeton.

This was followed by wins from the Boys Open 4 x 50m medley relay team of Matt Poskitt, Toby Sanderson, Tom Atkinson and Owen Roberts who touched seven seconds ahead of the competition.

Finleigh Dukes won the 14/u 50m butterfly with ease.

At the halfway stage Retford were in third place on 100 points, behind leaders Sherwood on 116 points and Kimberley on 107, but ahead of Chesterfield on 67 points and Mansfield and Hucknall/Linby who were tying on 53 points.

The team continued to put in strong performances in the second half with Tom Atkinson leading the way with a win in the Open 50m backstroke.

This was followed by a win from Emma Davies in the 14/u 50m freestyle.

The Boys Open quartet claimed their second victory of the evening with another easy win in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay and Natasha Utley touched first in the 10/u 50m butterfly. 

At the end of the evening Retford had managed to close the gap a little but not enough to nudge them into second place with the final results as: 1st Sherwood 234 points; 2nd Kimberley 215 points; 3rd Retford 213 points; 4th Chesterfield 134 points, 5th Mansfield ‘B’ 109 points; 6th Hucknall/Linby 108 points.
