Rugby kids win through in Yorkshire Cup

DINNINGTON Rugby Club played host to the first round of the Yorkshire Cup, and the club’s Under 11s secured a place in the next round.

Local rivals Mosborough, Sheffield and Doncaster visited Lodge Lane on a very sunny Sunday morning, for 14-minute junior games with no conversions.

Dinnington took on Sheffield in the opening encounter, and after some fantastic defensive work, the hosts went ahead through Thomas Bignell.

But a strong showing in the second half from Sheffield saw them cross the line twice to take victory.

The teams all observed a minute’s silence for Remembrance Sunday, and Dinnington then faced Mosborough in a close affair.

The visitors went ahead, but Reece Wilks levelled the scores.

A Dominic Leach try made it 2-1 to Dinnington before Mosborough took advantage of an error to go over, forcing the draw.

The third game of the day for Dinnington saw them clinch their first win, with a solitary Wilks try deciding the tie.

Other results went in Dinnington’s favour, placing them second on the day, and putting them through to the next round.
