Rugby men well beaten

East Retford Rugby Club were beaten 36-0 in grim conditions away from home on Saturday.

Both sides started at a brisk pace, with Retford showing strong forceful running and good support.

Kesteven’s defence held as Retford looked for early points, and then the hosts counter attacked and were soon camped on the Retford line.

Retford’s defended gallantly, broke clear and won a penalty which was kicked wide.

The first and only points of the half went to the hosts from a penalty after 25 minutes but Retford were well in the game at the break.

Enforced changes due to injuries meant Retford were soon put to the sword in the second half.

Retford did counter attack on several occasions with some strong runs particularly from Chris Trenham and Josh Nicklin but it was all too fragmented.
