Boston Rugby Club’s Ladies’ section are planning on expanding to run two teams next season.

The Blue and Whites’ inaugural campaign was a successful one, with the side being placed third in the National Challenge 2 North East following the abrupt end to the campaign.

However, head coach Paul Beard is looking for bigger and better next season.

“We’ve got around eight to 10 development players who are yet to pull on a shirt and play a match,” he said.

“Next year were hoping to run two sides, a First XV and a development side, giving everyone the opportunity to play rugby and enjoy the game and the social side.

“It’s a really exciting time to be around the club. A lot of teams are struggling for numbers but that’s the not the case here.”

Beard also gave the thumbs up to the team for their desire over the past 12 months.

He added: “The players have really thrown themselves into it.

“Fifty per cent of the team had never played a second of rugby before the season, they just knew there was something happening at the club with an odd-shaped ball.”

The club have benefitted from sponsorship from the Quayside Hotel and Sabotage Tattoo this season, as well as the Tesco token scheme.
