Fourth-place spot for Red and Greens

Market Rasen & Louth Rugby Club have been awarded fourth place in the Midlands 2 East (North) Division.

On Friday the Rugby Football Union released the final standings for this season, following the campaign being brought to an early halt by the coronavirus outbreak.

A statement by the RFU read: “Following the early end of the rugby season in England as a result of COVID-19, The Rugby Football Union has announced the final league positions.

Proposals from the RFU governance committee to conclude the season for those leagues at both professional and community level were yesterday ratified by the RFU Council.

“It was agreed that final standings for the Greene King IPA Championship and men’s and women’s community game would be calculated on a best playing record formula maintaining promotion and relegation for those leagues.”

The published results see the Red and Greens sat fourth in the table with a points average of 73.33.

Dronfield (86.78) finished top of the table and have earned promotion for next season.

Matlock (85.56) were second and Coalville in third (74.56).

The two sides relegated from the division will be basement side Ashfield (-5.00) and second-bottom Nottingham Casuals (30.40).

Rasen & Louth had played 18 of their 22 contests before the season was abruptly halted.

The Red and Greens had won their final two matches before the early conclusion, home victories against Nottingham Casuals (43-7) and Newark (37-17).
